How do I actually ask for consent without it feeling weird?
I want to make sure my partner is okay with things but I get awkward and don’t know what to say.

Honestly, the fact you’re asking is a great sign. It usually feels much less weird in the moment than it does in your head. Keep it simple: “Is this okay?”, “Do you want to keep going?”, “Want to slow down?”. Check in again when things change, not just once at the start. Watch body language too: if they go quiet, pull away or freeze, pause and ask. “No”, “not sure”, or silence all mean stop, and anyone can change their mind at any point.
