Houserules.

The Talk only works if everyone feels safe asking anything. These rules are how we keep it that way. They’re short. Please read them.

AnonymousModeratedNo shamingExpert-checked
1🕶️

Stay anonymous

No real names, photos, phone numbers, social handles, schools or workplaces. Not yours, not anyone else’s.

2🫶

No shaming. Ever.

Every question is a good question here. No mocking bodies, experiences, sexuality, gender, religion or caste.

3✋

Consent, always

Talk about consent the way you’d want it: freely given, can be taken back, needed every time.

4🚫

No explicit content

No porn, nudes or graphic sexual descriptions. We talk about sex to learn, not to arouse.

5🧒

Protect young people

Anyone who tries to contact, groom or sexualise minors is removed immediately and reported.

6🩺

Share experience, not diagnoses

Say what helped you, but don’t tell people to take medicines or skip seeing a doctor. No selling or promoting.

How moderation works

  1. 1You post anonymouslyYou get a random nickname. We don’t store your name, email or IP address with it.
  2. 2A moderator checks itEvery question and community reply is reviewed before it goes live.
  3. 3Experts weigh inDoctors and counsellors answer and their replies are clearly marked and pinned to the top.
  4. 4Anyone can reportTap ⚑ Report on anything that breaks the rules. Reported posts are hidden while we check.

The full guidelines

the detail

Stay anonymous

  • Don’t share your real name, photos, phone number, email, social media handles, school, college or workplace.
  • Don’t share anyone else’s details either, even if you’re upset with them.
  • Posts with phone numbers, emails or links are blocked automatically for your safety.

Be kind, and no shaming

  • Every question is welcome. Nobody should feel stupid for asking.
  • No mocking or judging anyone’s body, experience, sexuality, gender identity, religion, caste or background.
  • Disagree with ideas, not people. No bullying, slurs or threats.

Consent and respect

  • Talk about consent the way you’d want it practised: freely given, specific, and something anyone can take back.
  • Never pressure anyone, here or anywhere else.

No explicit content

  • No pornography, nudes, sexual images or graphic sexual descriptions.
  • Use correct words for body parts and acts when you need to. That’s education, not explicit content.

Protecting young people

  • Anyone who tries to contact, groom or sexualise minors is removed immediately and may be reported to the authorities.
  • The Talk is for people aged your minimum age, e.g. 18+.

Health information

  • Share what helped you, but don’t tell people which medicines to take or to skip seeing a doctor.
  • Answers marked Doctor or Counsellor come from professionals we have verified. Everything else is experience, not medical advice.
  • No selling, promoting products, services or “cures”.

Moderation and reporting

  • Every question and community reply is checked by a moderator before it goes live.
  • Tap ⚑ Report on anything that breaks these rules. After several reports a post is hidden until a moderator checks it.
  • We may edit posts to remove personal details, and remove posts that break these rules.

If someone is in danger

The Talk is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in danger, call 112 straight away, and see our Get help now page for helplines.

What happens if rules are broken

Depending on how serious it is, we remove the post, stop accepting posts from that device, or report it to the authorities when the law requires it.
